If you are late to the Reedley College football party taking place this 2019-20 season, Sophomore Jamon Chambers will quickly catch you up to speed.
Ask around and his name carries weight in the backfield since breaking out at Stadium High School in Tacoma, Washington by setting program records as a two-time Offensive Player of the Year, a two-time First Team All-City and All-League running back. These days, junior college programs throughout California are being put on notice as Chambers has emerged as a team leader steering the Reedley Tigers powerfully into the postseason.
Running Game: The Reedley Tigers have remained undefeated in conference play during the 2019-20 season thanks to Sophomore Jamon Chambers putting together a historic season.
The Tigers have been here before and now they are going back again.
Heading into last Saturday night’s epic match-up in Monterey, California, Reedley was poised for some repeat business after a historic championship 2018 season that resulted in the Tigers going 10-1, but they needed to get past undefeated Monterey Peninsula College Lobos for their 2019 storybook season to continue to write itself in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA).
Back To Back: After capturing their second-straight American Golden Coast Conference Championship, Jamon Chambers and the Reedley Tigers have their eyes set on the Northern California American Division championship.
It wasn’t just another game. It was a chance to keep making history on the road and for Chambers to stay shining (he’s already surpassed his Freshman total in yardage and touchdowns).
Reedley College overpowered Monterey Peninsula College for four quarters and lit up the scoreboard, 58-38, on their way to capturing their second-straight American Golden Coast Conference Championship behind a complete team effort by the Tigers under head coach Eric Marty. Armon Hickson was on the money at quarterback throwing for 192 yards (12 for 15) and five touchdowns as he connected with River Walker, Andy Pierre-Antoine, Daniel Baca, and John Calderon, while Chambers put together a phenomenal performance by rushing for a season-high 213 yards, scoring two touchdowns, and he also tossed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Calderon.
Chambers set the tone early and often.
With the game tied at 21-21in the second quarter Chambers busted it open for a 31-yard touchdown run that helped the Tigers mount a 38-24 halftime lead and provided the opportunity for Reedley to shut the door in the second half. While Monterey Peninsula battled to the end, Chambers took matters into his own hands with a 66-yard touchdown run. With the monumental victory in the books, Reedley remains undefeated at 5-0 in conference play and 8-1 on the season as they prepare for their final regular season game on Saturday against Hartnell College and a run at the Northern California American Division championship.
