Types of sleeves

There are two different types of sleeves with our custom sports apparel; ‘raglan’ sleeve and ‘set-in’ sleeve. Many of our customers are not aware of the difference between raglan sleeve and set in sleeve. It’s important to have an idea of the difference between those types of sleeves.

What is a raglan sleeve?

A raglan sleeve is one continuous piece of fabric that extends from the collar of the garment down to the underarm. This style of sleeve is often found on sports and casual clothing and custom sportswear, such as t-shirts, sweatshirts or sports jackets.

The benefit of a raglan sleeve is that it gives a wider underarm area, allowing you to have additional space in your underarm area. It makes it easier to move about with more space to life your arms up and down as required. This extra movement also makes your custom apparel extremely comfortable to wear.

Some benefits and features of wearing custom sportswear and apparel with a raglan sleeve are:

Freedom of movement; extra space is created by the style and shape of the raglan sleeve.
There is no shoulder sleeve.
Fitting is wider in the underarm area.
Slightly more casual look
Convenient for over-garments such as sweatshirts or jackets to allow space for other layers underneath.

The raglan sleeve is best suited for informal and casual occasions and not really suitable for formal events. If you are attending a more formal sporting event, perhaps a product with a ‘set-in sleeve would be more suitable.
